Ethiopia’s World Tour rider Tsgabu Grmay this week opens his 2020 season when he competes as part of a 7-rider Mitchelton Scott team in the Volta Valencia which takes place from 5th to 9th February.

Tsgabu is also confirmed for the Ruta Del Sol 2020 (also known as the Vuelta a Andalucia) which takes place from the 19th to 23rd February.

It will be the first time in his professional career Tsgabu has competed in these races. Tsgabu’s Australian teammate Jack Haig has been named as the team leader for the Valencia race.

In related news, 23 year-old Ethiopian rider Eyeru Tesfoam Gebru has been named in the UCI WCC (World Cycling Centre) team which will compete in a number of high-profile races in the coming months, starting with the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad elite women’s race at the end of February.

Gebru comes from Axum in Tigray, a town regularly visited by ECH cycling tourists, and started her cycling as a mountain bike specialist before joining the Messebo team based in Mekelle, Tsgabu’s home city. She still competes for her home club when back in Ethiopia.
