Respondents in a survey carried out by Ethio Cycling Holidays have cited international air travel – ahead of place of accommodation, restaurants or airports in Ethiopia – as their biggest concern regarding the risk of infection from COVID-19 when travelling on a cycling vacation to Ethiopia.
In the survey which canvassed views from 100 of ECH’s committed followers just over half the respondents also said that the removal of quarantine restrictions in their own country would give the biggest impetus to booking a holiday in Ethiopia. In the words of one respondent: “Key for me is not having to quarantine when I get home and making sure that my travel insurance covers me.”
ECH’s airline partner Ethiopian Airlines has gone to great lengths to reassure travellers of a safe journey experience, referenced by a short video outlining some of the safety precautions that the airline has put in place. ECH itself has produced its own COVID-19 readiness briefing which is being made available to clients on request.
Three out of four of the survey respondents also welcomed ECH’s ‘flexible deposit’ policy which allows clients to transfer their booking deposit to a future tour up to 15 days before their departure. “The flexibility to change dates is probably the most important thing for me right now,” was how one respondent summarised the view of many.
Ethio Cycling Holidays was delighted with the response to the survey, noting that many of its followers were keen cyclists and of a more adventurous persuasion. Over 90% of those who completed the survey said that they cycled regularly at least once or twice a week. “As holidays go,” noted one client, “Ethiopia is pretty low risk and from what I experienced on my tour your hotels are amazingly good quality.”
