Ethio Cycling Holidays has partnered with three other Ethiopian tour operators in launching Ride The Rift, a charity bike ride taking place in Ethiopia on Saturday 21st November to support those individuals and families working in tourism across Ethiopia who have been most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The primary aim of the ride is to raise funds which will be given to help these families and to raise awareness of their plight. A secondary aim, in line with Ethiopian government policy, is to demonstrate that Ethiopia is open for travel once again and that the coming year would be an ideal time to visit some of the fascinating landscapes and historical sites that can be found across the country.

The hope of the collaborative effort by the four Ethiopia tour operators is that the event will motivate people to ‘travel out to help out’, giving employment to individuals and businesses across the country. The organisers are looking to raise 600,000birr for 60 families across the country and to have 60 participating cyclists. Most participants are likely to come from Addis Ababa, though international cyclists are also welcome to take part.

Tourism Ethiopia is supporting the event and its CEO Sileshi Girma will take part in the ride and present awards at the post-ride lunch at Ankober Lodge which will be attended by a number of Ethiopia’s tourism stakeholders.
