Tsgabu Grmay

Tsgabu Gebremaryam Grmay was born in Mekelle on 25 August 1991.

Tsgabu is the first Ethiopian professional cyclist to ride in a Grand Tour. He first competed in the Giro d’Italia in 2015 and competed in the Vuelta a Espana in the same year. In 2016 he became the first Ethiopian rider to compete in the Tour de France. He placed 92nd in 2016 and 73rd in 2017.

Tsgabu currently rides for UCI World Team Mitchelton–Scott.

He is a two-time national road race champion, three-time national time trial champion, and one-time African time trial champion.

His professional career started with MTN Quebeka in 2012 which followed spells of training at the African UCI Continental Centre in South Africa and the World Cycling Centre near Geneva in Switzerland.

His dream is to make it possible for more young Ethiopian riders to enjoy success on the international stage.
